Cliffs Of Moher – Downpatrick Head
What do you do when you have two days off and everyone else is working? You pack a bag, Jump in your car and just drive. Thats what I did anyway.
I was after a great weekend and was slowly pulling myself back together. Curled up on the couch watching daytime tv, I said to myself “what am I doing wasting such a nice day, And these women are not loose at all, In fact they are anything but loose” (The daytime tv people will get that one)
Grabbed my camera and packed a bag and just started driving. I didn’t know where I was going but the sun was shining, the tunes were blaring and I had no where I needed to be for a change.
I was outside Limerick and I saw a sign for the Cliffs Of Moher. I was there before but being a photographer means you have to visit a few times to get the perfect shot. Unless you get lucky. (Which I did, keep reading)
So after a few hours I got to the Cliffs just as everyone was leaving. I cannot describe how windy it was. I was so sure I wouldn’t get any shots as I could barely open my eyes not to mind a camera sitting on top of a tripod. Managed to get one or two shots which Im happy enough with.
After packing my gear it was getting pretty late so I knew I wouldn’t make it to another location. It was also starting to rain so that was the end of that for the day.
Sat into the car and straight onto booking.com to have a look for a hotel. I swear that app has never failed me yet. I had the hotel booked in less than 5 minutes.
I stayed in Nox Hotel just outside the City Centre in Galway. Such a cool Hotel. Very contemporary and stylishly decorated.
Loads of little cosy corners to sit and relax.
The Room was perfect. A desk for some editing and even a usb plug socket. (It really is the little things)
After a bit of editing and a pint…or two, It was time for bed.
The next morning I popped into the city, grabbed a coffee and wandered around for a bit.
If you a looking for a really good cup of coffee then I would recommend Coffeewerk & Press. Its a little design store that also sells really GOOD Coffee.
Back to the Hotel afterwards. Checked out and headed to Salthill Prom for a bit. Did a bit of googling and headed off again to my next photo location. Drove for nearly 3 hours until I finally reached Downpatrick Head. This is the part where you need to make sure you get a good photo because it is a drive that you would only do maybe once a year. I was wrecked after it.
I have to say Downpatrick Head is one of the most incredible places I have seen in my life. Its just not something you would expect to see after driving in the middle of no where for hours. (Fair enough its under 3 hours from Galway but its more than 5 from Kerry)
This is something I mentioned earlier about getting lucky with photography. I will be returning to the Cliffs Of Moher again for sure to get the perfect shot, Although the shots I got at Downpatrick I am more than happy with them. If I never return again Il still be happy with what I got. Im going to share one of the shots below so let me know what you think. (I have a better one but i’m saving it) I was glad to have something to be leaving with. Especially after driving over 13 hours in 2 days.
So thats what I did on my day off. If any of you guys go visit these places, or if ye have any recommendations then be sure to snap and let me know.
